The reason I locked myself in a room to sew and create my look book in a span of four weeks was not because I am crazy (well maybe a little, but that’s an entirely separate matter), but because I wanted to apply to be a Designer in Residence (DIR) at the Chicago Fashion Incubator (CFI) at Macy’s on State Street. The program is an amazing opportunity that provides designers resources (studio space, office space, machines, dress forms, etc.) and seminars/workshops to understand the business behind starting a fashion line. This year the program changed to a two year commitment. Four of the six current DIRs have agreed to a second year, which means only two new designers will be admitted into the program this year (as opposed to the normal six). I am happy to announce I received a call back for an interview to fill one of the two open spots!! The new DIRs will be publicly announced the beginning of March.
Above is a pic of me putting finishing touches on the girls before the big interview on Saturday!
Stay tuned and wish me luck!
PS. Isn’t my mom too cute?! I received this text at perfect moment before my interview.
